Trig points removed or destroyed

Is it ok to log a trig point on the website which isn’t on the website already? I tried to record a pillar shown on a 1948 OS map. Something went wrong. I put in the grid reference but it ended up about 100 miles west of Lands End on the map.

What's the grid ref? If not already on TPUK it could be an "old trig" or a "ghost trig" i.e. non pillar trig, but if the latter it should already be on TPUK. What if anything has been found on the ground?

Tq337632 Croham Hurst in South Croydon. Open ground crossed by a footpath, grass and bracken. No obvious evidence although couldn’t be sure of exact location.

Indeed, almost 1km from the nearest trig on TPUK, although seems a logical place for one, if at the summit. I recall a Pathfinder map (not as old as 1948) in Mid Wales which had a lot of trig symbols in a few km2 of moorland. It made no sense that they would all be trig stations; needless to say we found none of them. It would be good to know the status of these, interested to know what others think.
In the case of benchmarks, there are many which were destroyed before the OS database was compiled, and were never incorporated. I wonder if that's the case with trigs. The database (and hence TPUK) contains destroyed trigs dating back to maybe 1950s, from memory.

I've had a look at the OS 6 inch Surrey Sheet XIV.SW from 1946 (Surv. 1938). The triangle shown is almost certainly an Old Trig i.e a triangulation station from the Primary Triangulation in the 1800s consisting most likely of a cut mark on a stone, either at ground level or below. We have included some Old Trigs on T:UK, but only where there is some physical evidence, which will probably prove hard to find in this case. But if you do find anything on site and can supply a picture and a precise GR we'll get it added properly.
The original T:UK dataset contained pillars destroyed from about the early 50s as you say Rob, but this has been augmented by further details obtained from research in the original documentation at Maybush etc; I would be very surprised if any further OSGB36 pillar stations were discovered (and astonished if they were discovered intact in situ!).

Thank you. Maybe next time I’m in the area I’ll have another look. There is a stone plaque indicating the area was a Bronze Age settlement. Also a bench at a viewpoint so might be worth investigating further.
