Peak District Trigs

Post by Marv »

Hi,

Having a bit of a debate on how many trigs are in the Peak District?

Actual number and how many are pillars?

Any help would be much appreciated.

See https://paulbesley.blog/2016/10/13/tria ... on-points/ for details of pillar numbers, not sure how accurate it is but it's a starting point.

If you are not already aware of it, there is an interesting book "Peak Distict Trigpointing Walks" by Keith Stevens and Peter Whitaker published by Sigma Press. It details 20 walks with lots of information and pictures and includes an introduction on surveying and map making. In three tables are listed 9 pillars in the SE grid, 17 in the SJ grid and 99 in the SK grid. This does include missing and moved pillars, but some may be outside the National Park, if this is your criteria.

Good shout, I'd forgotten about that one - ISBN 9781409258131

Two related titles that might be of interest, both by Peter Naldrett:

Trigpoint Walks in the Peak District: The White Peak 9781409258858
Trigpoint Walks in the Peak District: The Dark Peak 9781409258131

The publisher for all 3 is Sigma Press, www.sigmapress.co.uk

When I started trig bagging one of the objectives was to visit all extant Peak District trig pillars. It took a few years but I achieved it. I make it a total of 88 pillars, although I have seen doubts raised as to whether the Alphin Pike pillar is within the National Park. It's my local trig and one of my all-time favourites and as far as I'm concerned it is within.

Anyway, here's the list (sorry for not including FB numbers):

Abney Moor
