crossfell trig painting north pennines alt 2930ft

Post by pennineway »

I note there are comments on the painting and colour of CROSSFELL TRIG and I can confirm that in 2019 one coat of LEYLAND smooth masonary paint was applied in the shade of magnolia . it has an expected life of 15 years and was still looking good last week (july 2020) (didnt have any white in the shed)

Pennineway I was up there last week in the clag, rain etc and noted a cream appearance to this pillar. Does the job and thank you.

Do we know if Trig points/towers were painted white when they were first put up ? A lot in Wales have been painted white in recent years and Red Dragons added. Unsure if this is frowned upon or encouraged. In poor weather, they certainly loom up quicker !!

In answer to Gags question, no - trig pillars were not (all) painted white when they were first erected. Pillars come in different shapes, materials, designs and indeed colours. Many of the pyramidical column type pillars are 'concrete coated' and quite often painted white but this is far from universal.
