Another OS Exhibition Pillar has been discovered within the GoOutdoors shop in York. FB 12351 was known to have been fixed to a wooden replica pillar for presentational purposes, much like the well-known exhibition pillar in the National Library of Scotland. Previously believed to be held in storage at OSHQ, how it ended up in its current location is a mystery. Thanks to Anthony Towers for alerting us to its rediscovery. GR10 is an approximation and will be updated following reliable reports.

Re: York Exhibition Pillar
Not sure how this one can score a 10/10 for location and view!

Re: York Exhibition Pillar
Thanks for the alert Bernie. York duly visited.
Judging by the advertising posters, 'Go Outdoors'
expect their customers to be young, fit and affluent.
I failed on all three counts.
<grumpy>
Perhaps the marketing staff might try a different strategy using
virtual unreality. Instead of a warm and dry store with
soft lighting, they could try recreating the ambience of a
Pennine moor - grey and drizzly with a cold wind, soggy underfoot
and the trig dimly seen in the mist whilst products for sale are
occasionally glimpsed through the murky conditions. Sales assistants
would be replaced by sheep.
Would it work? maybe not but perhaps a reminder that items
could be offered for sale according to need instead of fashion.
