T:UK Member photo page

Post by trigging on an island »

First post on the new forum. I hope it goes on to be a great asset in promoting communication and interaction between us many varied trig baggers, whatever we seek to gain from this sport.

With all the changes to the site I would like to suggest that we set up some means of uploading personal pictures if we choose to. In a perfect world these could go onto, or link directly, from our profiles. However with potential recriminations from tresspass accusations this is probably not the way to go. So, possible alternatives? Something on the site/wiki buried a bit further, or perhaps only viewable to logged in members. Another idea is setting up an page away from T:UK which members can receive a link to when they register, and then possibly password protected with T:UK login details. Though not something that people need to create new account with like the photo hosting websites.
Any other comments or suggestions are welcome. Have been enjoying all the new tweaks to the site anyway regardless.

I think the problem at the moment is that there are too many places where personal information can be entered. There's this forum, which allows photos, the wiki, which allows whatever you like, and the T:UK preferences page which is more limited. It might be possible to find a way of including the forum photo into the T:UK profile page, though it would be more difficult to combine the other profile information.

But all of these are completely public. And, even if personal information was restricted to logged-in users, evidence from eg Manor Farm suggests that GOMLs often have at least one account on the website anyway. I would strongly suggest that anyone who has participated in any activity which might result in police involvement does not publish this fact on T:UK! If you are unfortunate enough to be living in an area of the UK where trespass laws apply, and visiting a trigpoint which is not on a right of way, then the GOML can use "reasonable force" to remove you, then pursue you in the courts for any property damage you caused. Additionally, the OS themselves are concerned that trespassing is the reason given on many of the requests they receive from landowners to destroy trigpoints.

The wiki and forum are an attempt to get a more community feel to T:UK, so I'm certainly happy to explore ways of improving the profile information. Maybe even highlight users' birthdays on the T:UK homepage?! Currently profile information is either "public" or "for admins only". There may be an argument for some information being "logged-in users only", to prevent bulk harvesting by spammers and search engines. But this would not be an effective way of preventing recriminations from trespass accusations.

Understood. The eye of scrutiny is on T:UK enough as it is.

Birthdays will automatically show up on the forum index if they have been filled in on the User Control Panel. One to look out for, mine is coming up in a few days time

Another feature that I think could be fun is a top ten bagger list for each trigpoint type. So that those who are a long way off with regards to pillars can still get some joy with fenomarks, pipes, spiders and the like. Also a list for counties too so that you can get a feel for whose particular 'patch' each may be.
