Birchen Edge rivet not on TrigpointUK?

Post by Trigger »

Was up on Birchen Edge today bagging TP1376 pillar then spotted a rivet 62mtr north at SK 27834 73156! Should this be on the TrigpointUK database? Photos added to my log at https://trigpointing.uk/trig/1376

I can't see anything else in the OS trig records that is close to this grid reference
so its unlikely to be a trig mark.

You could try a search of the Benchmarks database https://www.bench-marks.org.uk/

It is not on the OS benchmark database either

It could be connected to the Principal Triangulation (see: https://trigpointing.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=380), but I doubt it as you would expect there to be an arrow next to it. Moreover, given that the Principal Triangulation was carried out between 1791 and 1853, you would have to doubt whether a rivet would still be there and in such good condition after such a long period of time

Most likely, it was intended to be a rivet benchmark but was never ultimately used and thus never added to the database. Hence, the reason why there is no arrow next to it
